Mission
Our highly qualified staff partners with patients and their loved ones to provide supportive, individualized care every step of the way.

Vision
The Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center strives to be the area leader to those affected by cancer and blood disorders.

The Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center, located at Memorial Hospital's Dorbett Street entrance, combines top quality medical oncology and radiation oncology services with integrative medicine in a warm, peaceful environment. The team of physicians, the nurse practitioner, nurses, pharmacists, social worker, and therapists are truly committed to superior, compassionate, individualized care while embracing both conventional and complementary therapies.

Origin of Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center
Because of tremendous support and enthusiasm, the Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center became a reality in 2007. More than 4,300 people, who believed in the dream of a local cancer center, contributed to the Memorial Hospital Foundation capital campaign. The facility was named "Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center" in recognition of a very generous donation by Clem and Mary (Fuhs) Lange, who, along with their family, are owners of Best Home Furnishings in Ferdinand, Indiana.

National Accreditation
Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center's cancer program has held national accreditation from the American College of Surgeons-Commission on Cancer (CoC) since 1996. Accreditation from the CoC is a national gold standard in cancer care and is granted only to those facilities that have voluntarily committed to provide the best in cancer diagnosis and treatment and are able to comply with established CoC standards. To maintain their approval, accredited facilities must undergo an on-site review every three years. Memorial Hospital's cancer program was re-accredited with commendations following the last review.

Receiving care at a CoC-approved cancer program ensures patients will have access to:

  • Quality care close to home
  • Comprehensive care
  • A multidisciplinary, team approach
  • Information and education
  • Patient-centered services
  • Options for genetic assessment and counseling, and palliative care services
  • Care monitoring and quality improvement
  • Treatment planning based on evidence-based national treatment guidelines
  • Clinical trials and new treatment options
  • Follow-up care including a survivorship care plan
  • Patient tracking through the cancer data system

Medical Oncology
The Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center has a team of medical professionals that include two Medical Oncologists and a Nurse Practitioner that are truly committed to providing our patients with superior, compassionate care. The team of registered nurses are trained to care for the specific needs of cancer patients. Many of our registered nurses are certified in the field of oncology nursing and are dedicated to providing high-quality care, including administering cancer treatments and managing the side effects.

The Medical Oncology area is designed specifically for providing cancer care in a space that is warm, comfortable, and filled with natural light. Thirteen chairs and two private rooms provide patients with comfort while receiving treatment in open, semi-private or private treatment areas. Family members can stay with their loved ones during the treatments or relax in the nearby family lounge.

Radiation Oncology
A skilled team of caring and compassionate medical professionals treat Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center Radiation Oncology patients with state-of-the-art equipment. A Linear Accelerator provides Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) which matches the shape of the radiation beam to the shape of the tumor. It is one of the most advanced methods of radiation therapy using high doses of radiation to precisely target tumors while sparing the healthy tissue surrounding the tumor.

A recent renovation project included the addition of a new CT scanner in the radiation oncology area. This allows patients to get the required CT prior to radiation therapy conveniently in the cancer center, saving patients from traveling to another hospital department.
