Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center offers the Urolift® System for treatment of enlarged prostate (or BPH). With the Urolift® System, our Urology team provides this minimally-invasive treatment as an earlier alternative to medical therapy.
An enlarged prostate is also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It is a condition in which the prostate gland, the walnut-sized gland located below the bladder, grows larger than its normal size. This enlargement can put pressure on the urethra, the tube that carries urine from the bladder out of the body, causing symptoms such as difficulty urinating, weak urine stream, and frequent urination. It is a common condition among older men.
There are a range of treatment options for enlarged prostate depending on the severity of symptoms.
Treatment Options Include:
Your doctor will gather your health history and conduct a physical exam, in addition to other tests like urine and blood tests. This will help determine the best treatment option for your specific needs.
The Urolift® System uses a revolutionary approach to treating BPH that utilizes a small implant to lift and hold the enlarged prostate tissue out of the way so it no longer blocks the urethra. Thereby, relieving the symptoms of BPH.
The procedure typically is performed in a single visit. It is the only BPH treatment that does not require heating, cutting or removal of the prostate tissue.
