Types of Cardiac Screenings

Coronary Calcium Scoring

CT Calcium Score, or heart scan, utilizes a low-dose CT scan to measure calcium in coronary arteries. The scan helps indicate atherosclerosis or coronary artery disease (CAD).

EKG

Recording of electrical signals in heart
Can be used to detect abnormalities that may signal heart muscle disease
Can diagnose slow or fast irregular heart beats

Ultrasound of heart
Screening recommended in families with history of certain valve and heart muscle problems
Provides information about structure and function of heart

Peripheral Arterial Disease Screening

Detect possible blood vessel blockage in legs
Compares blood pressure at ankles to blood pressure in arm
Non-invasive and takes approx. 30 minutes

Abdominal Ultrasound Screening

Ultrasound performed to screen for aneurysm
Could be done as screening if risk factors or family history is present
